The Nashville Technology Council recently had their annual Awards Gala. In a nutshell, the night is to celebrate the many key players in our grand little community.
What I love about the evening is how it brings together folks from some pretty diverse walks of life.
There are your 'Enterprise' type folks, larger companies working with larger companies on facets of business that can be, well...larger. This is the category I generally find myself in, and there is never a dull moment. But the 'larger company' dynamics can sometimes bring with them a large degree of work that many would consider tedious, possibly even mundane. I love my job, don't get me wrong, but I do get a bit envious of some of the other folks in the category I'll define below.
NASHVILLE'S BEST KEPT SECRET.....Tech Cocktail released an article in August of 2012 listing Nashville as one of the Top 12 cities ranked by The Young Entrepreneur Center that is "a start-up paradise". We are eat up with intelligent, innovative, entrepreneurs, and I got to spend some time with some of these folks at the Gala. It was, simply put, invigorating.
While we DVR the recent ABC show 'Nashville', showcasing the too-often over-lauded music industry here in town (a hand that doesn't really feed me, so I don't mind biting) AND continually have explain to unbelieving visitors that HEALTHCARE really is a bigger overall economic driver here in town than music...we generally do not sing enough praise of the technology start-ups here in Nashville.
So..what's my point?
There is a new wind blowing around town. The dynamic, paradigm-shifting, totally 'outside the box' start-up community is infiltrating the sometimes stodgy traditional business community here in Nashville. They are breaking rules, ignoring local business norms, and infecting the general mindset of the business community....and I love it.
This new wind will, if given access enough, help fill every sail in town. The resulting and beneficial changes that this community of entrepreneurs and fresh thinkers will either inspire, or demand, from Nashville will have a monetary/revenue impact....yes. But one impact that will be tough to define, will be easy to see. When you see a part of Nashville with a new bit of 'glitter, sparkle, or shine', you can thank the 'New-Wind Community' of entrepreneurs here in town.
